    Newest Generation of Laser Vision Correction

    Premier Ophthalmology Practice First in Region to Offer Laser Lens Replacement Technology

    Surgeons at Durrie Vision, pioneers in laser vision correction, announce
    that they are now among the first physicians in the world performing laser lens replacement using the newest generation of femtosecond* lasers. The use of lasers for lens replacement surgery is being hailed as “revolutionary” by industry leaders.

    Dr. Jason E. Stahl, MD, one of only a handful of American surgeons trained to use this advanced technology, will perform a series of laser lens replacements on Tuesday, August 9, 2011. The procedures will start at approximately 7:15 a.m. and are expected to continue until approximately 10:15 a.m. at Durrie Vision (5520 College Boulevard, Suite 201). Reporters and photojournalists
    are invited to observe and record the laser lens replacements that will take place during that period. Please note: these are not the first laser lens procedures that Dr. Stahl has performed, but this is the first time local media will be able to observe.

    Five patients are scheduled for the surgery. The first will arrive at Durrie Vision at 6:50 a.m. and is expected to be in surgery by 7:15 a.m. The patients will continue arriving throughout the morning; all have agreed to be interviewed/photographed. Interviews should be conducted prior to surgery, as most patients are groggy afterwards from anthesthesia. Dr. Stahl will make himself available for interviews between procedures as necessary.

    Dr. Stahl is Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Kansas Medical Center and specializes in lens implant surgery at Durrie Vision.

    Durrie Vision is the first medical practice in the midwest/central US and only the fifth in the United States to offer the laser lens procedure, which has been in development for several years.
    “Laser vision correction used to be completely different from lens implant procedures,” Dr. Stahl
    explains. “Now, we’re able to perform lens surgery with the most advanced lasers available.”

    Dr. Stahl points out that laser vision correction is now an option for millions of people who weren’t eligible for laser surgery before, such as people with extreme farsightedness or extreme nearsightedness.
