Better Vision through Better Diagnostic Technology

 
     

Some of the most promising advances in laser vision correction have been in diagnostic technology, allowing for the possibility of:
  1. vision better than 20/20 (super vision),
  2. better quality of vision (reduced risk for glare, halos); and
  3. correction of refractive errors and aberrations in eyes that had previous refractive procedures with less-than-optimal results.

    Why is diagnostic technology important?

    State-of-the-art diagnostic equipment is important because it's used to determine whether you are a candidate for laser vision correction, and if so, which procedure is most appropriate for you. It's also used to calculate the customized settings for the laser for your particular treatment.

    Previous technology measured only the sphere, cylinder, and axis of your eye - basically nearsightedness, farsightedness and normal astigmatism. New wavefront sensing devices measure the wave front distortions created by all the structures in your eye, determining the unique features of each eye and identfying abnormalities throughout your entire optical system. These unique abnormalities, not identified through traditional diagnostics, can then be treated with a customized LASIK procedure.
