Durrie Named to American Ophthalmological Society

OVERLAND PARK, KS (May, 2007) - Dr. Daniel Durrie has been named to the American Ophthalmological Society (AOS). The AOS was founded during the Civil War as the first specialty society in the United States, and is now celebrating over one hundred and thirty-seven years as a professional organization.

The AOS promotes excellence in patient care, education and research, to address essential issues in medicine and to advance the art and science of ophthalmology.

In order to be a member of the AOS, a thesis based on one’s own research must be written and accepted.  Dr. Durrie presented his thesis at the annual meeting in Greenbrier, West Virginia, May 20-23.

To be accepted, candidates also have to:

  • Be certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology
  • Have achieved distinction in the art & practice of ophthalmic science
  • Demonstrate proof of continuing scholarship
  • Author 6+ papers in refereed journals
  • Give promise of full participation in the Society
  • Add to (AOS) spirit of collegiality

AOS membership has served to influence virtually every facet of American ophthalmology and the Society has sustained its original purpose, “the advancement of ophthalmic science and art.”
