Durrie Vision to Perform Breakthrough Corrective Eye Surgery

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (August 1, 2005) – Durrie Vision, a leading U.S. eye care research, diagnosis and treatment facility located in Overland Park, Kan., will perform a new breakthrough corrective eye surgery implantation known as Visian ICL™, developed by California-based STAAR Surgical Company.

The new procedure, which will involve surgically implanting a corrective lens into the eye of a person with nearsightedness (myopia), was recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration pending an inspection of STARR Surgical Company’s facilities, methods and controls in compliance with the applicable requirements of the FDA’s Quality System Regulation.

“Durrie Vision is a leader in the field of vision correction surgery and is committed to providing patients the latest medical advancements,” said Dr. Jason Stahl, Durrie Vision refractive and implant surgeon. “Visian ICL is a breakthrough treatment that involves implanting a permanent contact lens into the front of the eye to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses.  The procedure will greatly benefit individuals with nearsightedness that are not candidates for LASIK, and Durrie Vision is proud to provide this cutting-edge procedure for our patients.”

Visian ICL is a refractive phakic implant intended for placement in the posterior chamber of the eye.  The models of the STAAR Myopic Visian ICL are indicated for the correction of myopia in adults with myopia ranging from -3.0 to -15.0 diopters with astigmatism less than or equal to 2.5 diopters at the spectacle plane and the reduction of myopia in adults with myopia ranging from greater than -15.0 to -20.0 diopters with astigmatism less than or equal to 2.5 diopters at the spectacle plane, in patients 21-45 years of age with anterior chamber depth (ACD) 3.00 mm or greater, and a stable refractive history within 0.5 diopters for one year prior to implantation.

Durrie Vision, located in Overland Park, Kan., is regarded as one of the leading eye care centers in the U.S.  Durrie Vision offers a sophisticated research center, a state-of-the-art clinical diagnosis treatment facility, and a leading laser and surgical vision correction component.  For additional information contact 800-279-7575 toll free or log onto www.durrievision.com
