Local ophthalmologist receives highest international honor

KANSAS CITY, MO (October 30, 2002) — The International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) has presented Daniel Durrie, MD, with the 2002 Barraquer Award.

The award is presented each year in recognition of an individual’s contributions and scientific dedication to the advancement of refractive surgery. As part of the ceremony, Dr. Durrie delivered an address to his colleagues on advanced vision testing and the future of refractive surgery.

Over the last 20 years, Dr. Durrie has performed over 30,000 refractive surgeries and led numerous research studies that have advanced the effectiveness and accuracy of refractive correction technology and techniques.

Dr. Durrie’s current work at Durrie Vision, a new kind of advanced vision correction facility located at the Hunkeler Eye Institute, involves the advancement of refractive diagnosis as well as customized LASIK procedures.

In addition to receiving the Barraquer Award, Dr. Durrie was recently honored by the American Academy of Ophthalmology for his continued contributions to the Academy, its scientific and educational programs and to the field of ophthalmology.

The doctor’s many other honors and awards include the designation as one of the top 10 refractive surgeons in the nation and certification by the Council for Refractive Surgery Quality Assurance.
